What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a pressure massage technique applied to the hands or feet in order to stimulate the reflex points that relate to other parts of the body and bring about a balance to the entire system. It releases tension and toxins allowing the blood to flow freely around the entire system and encourages the natural balance of the body to return. Reflexology is a holistic therapy that will not interfere with the majority of other treatment you may be receiving and although you may have a specific problem I would still work through the whole body.

The history of Reflexology

Reflexology can be traced back to hieroglyphics in ancient Egypt and has strong links with ancient India and China. William Fitsgerald introduced this therapy to the west in the early 1900’s.

In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed the zone therapy into what we call reflexology. Doreen Bailey, a student of Eunice Ingham Introduced reflexology to the UK where it has grown and become a recognised and effective therapy in the complementary medicine field. To this day Reflexology is still evolving and scientific research is continuing to surprise.
